Date of Birth Rectification Policy for Government Employees in Sindh (Latest Rule Explained)

Government of Sindh Clarifies Final Policy on Date of Birth Correction

Description

The Government of Sindh has clarified that the
Date of Birth recorded at the time of joining government service is final and cannot be changed later under Rule 12-A of the Sindh Civil Servants (Appointment, Promotion & Transfer) Rules, 1974.

The Government of Sindh, Finance Department, has reiterated an important rule regarding the rectification of Date of Birth (DOB) in the service records of government employees.

According to Sindh Civil Servants (Appointment, Promotion & Transfer) Rules, 1974, specifically Rule 12-A, the Date of Birth recorded at the time of joining government service is final and cannot be altered later under any circumstances.

This clarification was issued through Finance Department Letter No. FD(TR)1(289)/2017, dated 09 May 2018, to ensure uniform implementation across all government departments in Sindh.

What Does Rule 12-A Say?

"The date of birth once recorded by a civil servant at the time of joining Government Service shall be final and no alteration thereafter shall be permissible."

This means:

  • The Date of Birth entered in your service record at the time of appointment is permanent.

  • No application for correction or change of Date of Birth will be entertained after joining government service.

  • Every employee should carefully verify all personal documents before completing the joining process.

  • Any unauthorized or fraudulent attempt to alter service records may result in disciplinary action under the relevant laws and service rules.

Why Is This Rule Important?

The Date of Birth recorded in the service book determines:

  • Retirement date

  • Length of service

  • Pension eligibility

  • Seniority

  • Promotion schedule

  • Other service-related benefits

Therefore, government employees should always rely on the official Date of Birth recorded in their service book, not on later-issued documents or personal claims.

Advice for Government Employees

  • Verify your CNIC, educational certificates, and other documents before joining government service.

  • Ensure the Date of Birth entered in your Service Book is accurate.

  • Keep copies of all appointment and service documents safely.

  • Plan your retirement according to the Date of Birth officially recorded in your service record.

Conclusion

The Government of Sindh has made it clear that once a government employee joins service, the recorded Date of Birth becomes legally final. Employees should therefore exercise utmost care during the appointment process, as later corrections are not permitted under Rule 12-A of the Sindh Civil Servants Rules, 1974.
